Nepal Children’s Organization (NCO) was established under the National Direction Act- 2018 (1961 A.D.) in 1964 A.D. (2021 B.S.) NCO is also popularly known as Balmandir (The Children’s Temple). NCO is an autonomous, non- governmental, non-profit making and self – governing organization working for the best interest of Nepalese children by protecting and promoting their rights as well as by providing residential care to the children at risk. NCO has nationwide network of 75 districts. Ratna Rajya Laxmi is the founder member of this organization who is the mother queen of Birendra Bir Bikram Shah. During Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Regime, palace was the main, powerful and center administration of Nepal who established this organization with the leadership of his mother.
Vision of the Nepal Children’s organization is envisions developing a new society for children, where the rights of the child and a dignified life and livelihood are assured. Its mission is to protect and promote children’s rights as per the Convention on the Rights of the Child. It has the following objectives these are;
To organize child rights activities (awareness, advocacy and campaign) to eliminate all forms of abuse, exploitation, and injustice against the children.
To secure dignified future of the children at risk by providing them available best care.
To create pressure for ratification of international Conventions relating to the children.
To create pressure for formulation of laws the best interest of the children.
To be proactive for the implementation of national, regional and international legal instruments including CRC 1989.
To provide solidarity support with the child rights protection activities.
Still many children are orphan in Nepal and they are compelled to survive without any security and protection so that with the aim of Nepal Children’s Organization was established for their education development and protection like their parent’s home. In the established phase, the Palace was the main source which provided leadership to the Mother Queen of King Birendra Bir
Bikram Shah. She was the founder member and head of the organization as well. Now this type of organization structure is followed by them. This organization has been selecting their members from General Meeting which is conducted in every five years.

Now days, to conduct those listed program NCO is managing financial source from the following source;
Donation and gift received by individuals/organization
Support form national and international NGOs
Membership fee
Adoption donation
Amount acquired from the movable and immovable property of NCO. a) Rent, b) Bank interest form endowment fund
Others (income generating program, sponsorship program etc.)
At the primitive stage the Place was development plan and policy regarding such child organization and now days their executive committee is the main whose handle all the program and policy and it also takes the necessary decision according to suggestion of Home Management Branch. There were no any social, political and financial challenges because all activities were directly linked with the powerful administration of Nepal. And it hadn’t any kinds of financial, social and political challenges in the history but now days Palace is not powerful to decide any things to run state or such organization so it has no any support form that and somehow they are facing financial problem. The organization was working as a parent’s home of orphan children they were getting food, shelter, cloth, education and other more opportunities so it had been given great impact in the society by protecting Human Rights of every people. Mainly Palace was the main leading organization and Mother Queen of King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah who played significant role to upliftment its organization during those periods.
